Koffeinfrei Bio Fairtrade proves that decaffeinated coffee can still offer a rich and satisfying flavor experience. This 100% Arabica coffee from Honduras is grown in the Copán region at around 1,300 meters above sea level and produced by the cooperative COCAFCAL, known for its commitment to organic cultivation and Fairtrade principles.

The coffee is carefully decaffeinated using the natural CO₂ method, a process that removes caffeine while preserving the natural aromas and structure of the beans. Carbon dioxide, a natural component of our atmosphere, is used under controlled temperature and pressure conditions to selectively extract caffeine from the green coffee beans.

During the process, the raw coffee is first moistened with water to increase its moisture content. The beans are then placed in a sealed extraction vessel where pressurized liquid CO₂ circulates through the coffee, gently removing the caffeine. The CO₂ carrying the caffeine is separated and reused in a closed-loop system until the caffeine content of the coffee is reduced to less than 0.1%.

After the decaffeination process, the coffee is carefully dried back to its natural moisture level before being roasted. This gentle process ensures that the coffee retains its full aromatic character.

The aroma reveals notes of walnut, fresh grass, and baked pastry.
On the palate, the coffee develops flavors of dark cocoa, bread, and a hint of pepper, finishing with a smooth milk-chocolate aftertaste.
